Katherine Wutchiett is a partner at Katz Banks Kumin who joined the firm in 2025.
Ms. Wutchiett has represented workers in a range of civil rights claims under state and federal laws involving discrimination, harassment, retaliation, accommodations, and various leave protections. Her clients have come from a wide range of industries, including healthcare, technology, education, retail, and manufacturing. She has represented many employees in cases that have successfully resolved confidentially prior to and during litigation, often including terms requiring policy change at the employer.
Prior to joining KBK, Ms. Wutchiett was a Senior Staff Attorney at Legal Aid at Work, a nonprofit dedicated to advancing workplace rights. Starting her work at Legal Aid at Work as a Skadden Fellow, she developed medical legal partnerships with providers supporting pregnant people and new parents, helping patients to access the leaves, accommodation, and pay they needed to preserve their employment and wellbeing. While there, she represented workers experiencing varying civil rights violations, with a focus on the rights of pregnant people, family caregivers, parents, people with serious health conditions or disabilities, and survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, or sexual harassment. Ms. Wutchiett has also played a role in shaping California’s laws providing protections for survivors of violence and leaves from work through drafting and advocating for legislation, including testifying in front of California’s Assembly and Senate. She has frequently presented to the legal and healthcare community on rights to leaves and accommodations. Ms. Wutchiett also serves on the Executive Board of the California Employment Lawyers Association
Ms. Wutchiett graduated from Washington University School of Law, in St. Louis, Missouri, summa cum laude in 2015. She attended law school as a Webster Scholar, a recipient of a full tuition scholarship provided based on academic merit and commitment to public service, and was elected an Articles Editor for the Washington University Law Review. During law school, Ms. Wutchiett interned for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and for Service Employees International Union as a Peggy Browning Fellow. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota, Morris, with distinction. Following law school, Ms. Wutchiett served as a law clerk for the Hon. Judge Bobby Shepherd of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.
