Katz Banks Kumin partner Adam Herzog was recently quoted in a Best Lawyers article, “SEC Whistleblower Awards Are Spiraling. Could It Be Part of MeToo Movement?”

Although the SEC’s whistleblower program has been issuing awards since 2008, the agency issued more awards in 2021 than in all the previous 10 years combined. While some argue that it’s the result of emboldened tipsters or a changing political climate, Mr. Herzog says that the answer is much simpler.

“I imagine the SEC staff is getting more efficient at working through these cases as time goes on,” he says. “By the same token, lawyers such as myself have gotten better at giving the SEC what it needs to pursue these cases. We’re getting better at screening would-be whistleblowers.”
