Alexis Ronickher Discusses Twitter’s Role in Jan. 6 Attack with CNN
KBK partner Alexis Ronickher, along with client Anika Collier Navaroli, recently appeared on CNN to discuss the January 6th Committee’s final report and its failure to hold social media companies accountable for their role in facilitating the planning and execution of the attack.
Ms. Navaroli, a former Twitter employee who worked on the company’s content moderation team, testified before the Committee last July, detailing the platform’s failure to recognize activity and posts that were meant to coordinate an attack on the U.S. Capitol. However, while social media companies are mentioned multiple times in the Committee’s final report, the report does not explicitly criticize platforms for not doing enough to stop the attack. In her interview, Ms. Navaroli said that the report represents a “missed opportunity,” and emphasized that it’s critical for the Committee’s full findings to come to light. Ms. Ronickher, who spoke on behalf of another anonymous former Twitter employee, ehoed the same sentiment that Twitter is partially culpable.
“Twitter leadership refused to take action,” Ms. Ronickher said. “It wasn’t actually until the doors of the Capitol were being breached that Twitter leadership started taking action, and at that point, it was too little too late. The real world harm and violence had happened.”
