Alexis Ronickher Speaks at Conference on Food Safety Whistleblowing and #MeToo

November 15, 2019

Katz Banks Kumin partner Alexis Ronickher spoke at the Food Integrity Campaign’s 10th Anniversary Conference on the panel, “Legal Bars to Truth Telling.”

The panel discussed the impact of blowing the whistle, SLAPP lawsuits, defamation threats, and non-disclosure agreements. It also addressed so-called “ag-gag laws” that certain states have passed to make it easier for food producers to sue critics.

Ms. Ronickher specifically talked about the many challenges that prospective whistleblowers face when deciding whether to come forward, particularly in the agriculture and food safety industries.  “They are at best looking at uprooting their families,” she explained. She further advised that to blow the whistle safely, “you have to have legal advice.”
