200,000 Downstate Assistants Sent Notice of $162 Million Class Action Settlement with Public Partnerships, LLC (PPL)
Last night, notice was sent to 200,000 personal assistants who were paid through PPL and provided services as part of CDPAP in New York City, Westchester County, and Long Island between March 1, 2025 and April 30, 2026 that they are eligible to receive monetary benefits from a $162 million settlement in the class action lawsuit Calderon et al v. Public Partnerships, LLC. Class Members are expected to receive, on average, a week’s pay (approximately $680), and also benefit from the end of the MEC health plan.
Class members received notice by email and text message. If emails to class members’ bounced back, notice will be sent by postcard to those class members very soon. A full notice detailing the benefits of the settlement is available here, and the settlement agreement is available here. Class members are encouraged to read the notices, which are all posted online at www.PublicPartnershipsSettlement.com. Questions can be directed to the Court-appointed Settlement Administrator (PublicPartnershipsSettlement@atticusadmin.com, 1-800-314-2601).
Plaintiffs’ lawsuit alleged that PPL violated state and federal law by, among other things, failing to pay them accurately and on time, and by providing benefits that did not comply with the New York Home Care Worker Wage Parity Act.
Class members do not need to do anything right now to benefit from the settlement. If it is finally approved by the Court, class members will automatically be part of the Settlement unless they opt out.
A diagram showing the settlement benefits is here. Plaintiffs are represented by Hugh Baran, Emma Walters, and Avi Kumin at Katz Banks Kumin LLP and Richard Blum, Rebekah Cook-Mack, Michael Diller, B. Franco Olshansky, Elizabeth Saylor, Belkys Garcia, and Rebecca Antar at The Legal Aid Society.
