Katz Banks Kumin partners Debra Katz and Lisa Banks were honored with Ms. Magazine’s “Wonder Woman Award” for their work fighting for gender equality, and increasing awareness of injustices faced by girls and women because of their gender.

Ms. Katz and Ms. Banks have fought for victims of sexual harassment, sexual assault, and gender discrimination throughout their careers, but their work this past year was notably inspirational. Ms. Katz and Ms. Banks represented Dr. Christine Blasey Ford before the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing where she testified against then-Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, accusing him of sexual assault.

They also represented Michelle Manning Barish, one of the four women who came forward with accusations of sexual assault against former New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman. Earlier this year, Ms. Katz and Ms. Banks also represented Vanessa Tyson, who alleged that Virginia Lieutenant Governor Justin Fairfax assaulted her at a political convention.

The fight for equality continued in the courtroom where Ms. Katz represented the Feminist Majority Foundation in a landmark case that ruled that universities are legally required to take action to protect students against sex-based harassment even when it occurs in cyberspace.
