March 5, 2018

Katz Banks Kumin partners David Marshall and Lisa Banks, and senior counsel Carolyn Wheeler participated in the 2018 National Conference on Equal Employment Opportunity Law in Coronado, California.

The conference was an opportunity for attorneys, businesspeople, and policymakers to learn about current trial practice issues and recent legal and policy developments. It also served as a networking occasion for top level practitioners from all areas employment law, including government leaders. Katz Banks Kumin was a platinum sponsor of the conference.

Ms. Banks was the Employee Co-Chair of the conference and served on the Program Planning Committee. Mr. Marshall moderated a discussion, “The Evolution of Retaliation Law,” which focused on a number of questions covering OSHA, Dodd-Frank, the False Claims Act, and more. And Ms. Wheeler was a panelist for a roundtable discussion titled “Church and Cubicle: Religious Matters in the Modern Workplace.” Among other developments, the panel explored the Supreme Court’s decisions in Burwell v. Hobby Lobby, which concluded that private employers could deny birth control insurance coverage for religious reasons, and EEOC v.
