Michael Filoromo Recognized as Pennsylvania Trailblazer by Legal Intelligencer

Katz Banks Kumin partner Michael Filoromo was recognized by The Legal Intelligencer as a “Pennsylvania Trailblazer” for 2020. The annual award honors attorneys who are agents of change in their legal communities, and are influential beyond their work in their respective firms.
Michael Filoromo was recognized for his work as a leading employment and whistleblower attorney in Philadelphia for over a decade. He has successfully represented hundreds of employees and whistleblowers who have experienced discrimination and retaliation in the workplace. Most notably, he represented one of the first 50 recipients of an SEC Whistleblower award and the first government employee to receive one, netting the whistleblower $2.4 million. He also represented the former Director of Food and Nutrition Services for the District of Columbia Public Schools in a case brought under the D.C. Whistleblower Protection Act, the D.C. False Claims Act, and various constitutional and state law provisions. The case, Jeffrey Mills v. D.C. Public Schools, resulted in a $450,000 settlement for Mr. Mills.
Outside of his client representation, Mr. Filoromo has been a leader in the Philadelphia legal community since co-founding the Philadelphia office of Katz Banks Kumin in 2015. This past year, he was elected President of the Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter of the National Employment Lawyers Association by his peers. As president, Mr. Filoromo leads an organization of approximately 80 plaintiff-side employment attorneys, and has spearheaded educational initiatives to benefit both members and the workers they serve. He also organizes outreach efforts to legislators, as well as amicus briefs in court, on key employment and labor law issues.
Additionally, Mr. Filoromo serves as the Employee Vice Chair of Outreach to New and Young Lawyers Committee of the ABA’s Labor and Employment Section, and he serves as Co-Chair of the Sarbanes-Oxley Subcommittee of the ABA’s Federal Labor Standards Legislation Committee.
