Sharon McGowan Wins Washington Business Journal’s LGBTQ+ Business Award
We are proud to announce that KBK partner Sharon M. McGowan has been selected as an honoree of Washington Business Journal’s LGBTQ+ Business Awards.
This year, WBJ has chosen 10 individuals and six employee resource groups from around Greater Washington for their efforts in advancing equality in the workplace and beyond. Ms. McGowan was recognized for her distinguished career as one of the nation’s leading civil rights attorneys and her legal advocacy for the LGBTQ+ community.
Ms. McGowan’s journey as a civil rights attorney has been marked by more than two decades of groundbreaking work, impactful litigation, and tireless advocacy for LGBTQ+ equality. Her career, which has included service in prestigious national organizations, federal agencies, and her current role as a partner at Katz Banks Kumin LLP, embodies the spirit of this award.
She has championed civil rights work, particularly in the fight against all forms of sex discrimination, including discrimination based on a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity. Ms. McGowan’s recent matters involve representing LGBTQ+ employees dealing with issues such as misgendering, sexual harassment, and other forms of workplace discrimination. Clients seek her out for her deep understanding of these issues and her ability to offer efficient and empathetic legal support.
