T’ruah Honors Debra Katz with Raphael Lemkin Human Rights Award
Katz Banks Kumin partner Debra Katz was honored by T’ruah – an organization of rabbis and cantors with the mission of advancing human rights around the world – with the Raphael Lemkin Human Rights Award. The event, “A Celebration of Human Rights” honored members of the Jewish community who embody T’ruah’s values of inclusion and justice.
Founded in 2002, T’ruah organizes, trains, and promotes rabbis and cantors to become impactful advocates for human rights in their communities. T’ruah orchestrates campaigns such as fighting against the deportation of asylum seekers in Israel and ending mass incarceration and human trafficking in North America, as well as many other efforts.
Ms. Katz received the Raphael Lemkin Human Rights Award for her representation of Dr. Christine Blasey Ford during her testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee, victims of Harvey Weinstein, and other survivors of sexual assault and harassment.
Also honored at the gala were Rabbi Jocee Hudson and Rabbi Elliot Tepperman, advocates for racial, criminal, social and environmental justice, and Rabbi Simkha Weintraub, a founder and valuable leader of T’ruah for 16 years.
